What is an Intermediate Switch?

An intermediate switch, also known as a three-way switch, allows the control of a single light from three or more locations in a room or building. This makes them ideal for living rooms, stairways and landings where a single light needs to be controlled from multiple positions.

Intermediate switches are therefore a much more convenient way to control lighting for many lighting arrangements, in both domestic and commercial settings. Intermediate switches might be more expensive than two way switches, but that is because the circuit it allows you to create is much more complicated.

An intermediate light switch needs to be used in the middle of a circuit. As an example, if you have three switches controlling the same light, the first and third switches should be two way, and the middle needs to be an intermediate switch. If you have four switches, the middle two need to be intermediate.

At 4Electrical, you can find intermediate light switches that match all of your chosen switches and sockets, from antique brass to black, white and beyond.
